The WELLalarm™ Story

In 2005, 28-year-old Stephanie Cion was diagnosed with a life-threatening neurological disorder, and she had to spend a year undergoing intensive treatments and chemotherapy. Her career in healthcare enterprise strategy was put on hold while she focused full-time on her own health. Stephanie had been rising in the ranks as an associate at Aetna, with previous experience in venture capital, specializing in medical devices and wireless and infrastructure technology.

Stephanie was disappointed to give up her hard-earned position at Aetna, but instead of giving in to the frustration of her illness, she fought back. When her disorder threatened the feeling in her hands and other extremities, she took up knitting. Her therapy turned into a hobby, and then a successful line of handbags called CionOriginals. As her disease receded, her business thrived.

Meanwhile, Stephanie’s oncologist instructed her to wear a medical alert bracelet because her illness was not identifiable in an emergency. She was shocked at the antiquated medical jewelry offerings available. As a native New Yorker involved in the fashion industry, she understood the significance of stylish accessories. And as a healthcare executive and someone suffering with a chronic illness, she knew the importance of having readily accessible medical information. Knowledge and communication are our best tools in fighting illness. In this digital age we are able to access everything on the computer, except for our personal medical information. So, Stephanie decided to create a solution: WELLalarm™.

WELLalarm™, incorporated in September 2007, brings a fresh perspective to medical alert bracelets and access to health information. It is a web-based service that enables clients to securely store and manage their health records, and take proactive steps to ensure their health and safety. In an emergency, first responders can access life-saving information—such as blood type, allergies, medications and contact information—from a WELLalarm™ account by entering the WELL-ID code found on a bracelet, necklace, clothing label, phone sticker, key tag, or wallet ID card. WELLcharms™ and WELLtags™ are sophisticated, smart jewelry that allow the wearer to identify their illness or allergy. Designed for both adults and children, wearers can have the confidence that life-saving information is only moments away. WELLalarm™ allows consumers to be the expert on their own health and be well, with style.

Stephanie attended The Dalton School, The George Washington University and New York University’s graduate program for Healthcare Finance and Policy. She knows the healthcare industry inside and out, and is committed to empowering people to take control of their health and wellness. With the launch of WELLalarm™, consumers have the opportunity to empower themselves against illness, embrace WELLness, and enjoy the freedom of knowing their information is there when they need it.

Your records. Your health. Your life. Now in your hands.
